Pinane hydroperoxide, also known as PHPO, is an organic peroxide that has a chemical formula C10H18O2. It is a highly reactive, colorless compound that is often used as an oxidizing agent in various chemical and industrial processes. In the presence of light and air, PHPO is made by the autoxidation pinane, which is a bicyclic tricyclic terpene hydrcarbon. The major product is PHPO. PHPO is well-known for its strong oxidizing capabilities and can be used in the synthesis and polymerization reactions of organic compounds and as a bleaching agent. PHPO, like all organic peroxides is reactive and unstable. Therefore, it must be handled, stored, and transported with safety precautions.
